I hit the gym today big-time. A full weights workout followed by a stint on the treadmill. My physio gave me the green light to start running again last week, and suggested I try the Couch to 5K programme. That's how I originally got into running, so I jumped in and did my second 'week 2' run on the treadmill this morning.
My knee remains sore around the MCL area, same pain that I had there pre-surgery; I flagged this to the physio and she checked that the repair was still intact, it is so she's told me to push through it. So far so good.

I've been getting very frustrated recently about my stalled weight loss since Christmas. There has been the odd meal out, so clearly I have intermittently fallen but the remainder of the time I am sticking religiously somewhere between 1200 and 1500 calories each day. So I've been glaring at my fitbit stats, which are all telling me that since knee surgery in September I've been getting increasingly more active, burning more calories and heading back towards my 'normal' levels of activity pre-surgery. Now at the end of February I am pretty close to my usual that mark and need to push beyond it now that my knee is fixed and I should be able to eventually walk around without it randomly giving way under me. There is still some work left in terms of physiotherapy exercises to get back the last few degrees of my range movement and get to a point where my knee can safely cope with twisting and turning motions, but everything is generally on track. I was told recovery would be 9-12 months, and here I at the end of 6 months mostly walking without a limp.
Last week my physio told me she was happy with what she saw of me jogging on a treadmill, and gave me the green light to start doing the couch to 5K programme which is how I got into running originally 15 years ago. I downloaded the NHS app yesterday and did the first 'week 2' session as I was already able to do all the week 1 stuff. My how this has changed, I'm now getting personal encouragement from Sarah Milliken straight into my headphones rather than trying to hold in memory what intervals between running and walking I need to do before I leave the house. Hopefully, once I can get back to running properly I can burn some more weight off.
