Last night was a bummer. At 00:08, my blood glucose was 106. Good, right on target. At 00:10 I injected my Lantus. (You might have noticed that I'm a night owl.) At 0:47 I was getting ready for bed and couldn't stop shaking, started sweat profusely, felt weak. I then got smart enough to take my bg. 42! I've never had a 42 and I was feeling so bizarre. I usually don't get tired with a hypo, but I was exhausted. Because my diabetes kit was in the office, I went there to read it. The walk and feeling were terrifying. I looked around the office for sugar and the only thing I saw were ranch Pringles. I stuffed myself with 7 Pringles (I've never before hated eating chips), stuffing them down as quickly as possible, the went to my bedroom for candy. I always keep candy next to my bed, but it was not there. I did however find a box of prunes, so I ate 5 of them. Then the interminable wait before I could do another bg test. My bg was now up to 55, so I quickly chewed three Lancaster Vanilla Caramel candies. And feeling extremely tired, I set my alarm clock for 15 minutes. So at 1:34 I awoke to take another bg. Still not up to par. Closer, but still low for me at 68. Fear finally set in, realizing that the Lantus was onboard. Since Lantus is a 12 hour insulin, I really feared that my bg may drop again. So, I went in and woke my husband (the morning person. lol) Sat down on his bed and ate three more candies. Fifteen minutes later, bg is 99. He was so sweet. Sat up rubbed my back, and actually talked to me for awhile. At 1:59 bg was 99, I figured I was okay to let Ern go back to sleep. I popped three Golden Oreos and came into the office to write down all the info about the bg and time, so that I could share it with my endocrinologist. Of course I didn't get around to it today. Anyway, at 2:23 my bg was 102 and when I finally got to bed at 3:15, it was 113. Perfect. Until about 3:00, Ern kept calling me to make sure I was still conscious. At 3:15 when I went into my room, I checked his room and he was sound asleep and snoring. I miss having him in my bed, but he prefers to do the dialysis and stay alive. Go figure. My continuous glucose meter came this afternoon. Boy I wish I had had it last night. I was hoping my daughter could help me set it up, but she was too busy. As most of you know by now, she works all day as an RN, goes to school one night a week and will have her masters in December, and is the mom of two still at home, and one pregnant one living there with her hubby. She came over after work and picked up some of her books from the garage and took me back to her place to place the cgm. She read over the instructions and decided it would take more time than she could spare. Begging off to do homework. So, I'm hoping that after my hubby's doctor tomorrow, he can help me figure it out. Wednesday we have three appointments with people to look over the house and make an offer, so unless I want to wait forever to set up this cgm, it must be tomorrow. This night person is turning in early tonight. Stress doesn't make me hungry any more, it make me tired. Sweet dreams all.
