Finally back on line! What a week this has been. We've been snowed in behind 4 foot of snow - no electricity as the overhead cables came down, no phone, post, refuse collection, coalman or shopping. We've been OK for food but I'm afraid the diet has had to go by the board as we've just had to eat what we had in stock. To cap it all my can opener broke and we had tins and nothing to open them with. My junior school report said that I had the capacity to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and to that end I managed to open tins with a corkscrew and a pair of kitchen scissors. We were due to get supplies delivered by the emergency services this morning, but it started to thaw in the early hours and I've been into the town today. I felt like a prisoner being released.
OH has not been too well and is scheduled for an endoscopy on 15th and colonoscopy on 19th followed by a camera examination of the bladder. Haven't had the date for this presumably because of the post. I hope there is no more snow and that the thaw that started this morning continues. The icicles hanging from the roof are spectacular, some of them 3 foot long. Those round our outside light look like a gargoyle or something from outer space.
I hadn't really given much thought to the stores we keep for times like this but as my diet has pretty much gone down the tubes, I'll have to make sure that emergency supplies are healthy ones in future. It came as quite a surprise to find I couldn't come up with a healthy meal. I'm a bit scared to stand on the scales, but I'll have to bite the bullet tomorrow. I've done huge amounts of snow shovelling, but I know I'm waterlogged as my feet and hands are a bit puffy.
I'm off to catch up on journals now before I go to bed. Hope no-one else has had the awful weather we've had in the UK
