I use the Werther's Sugar Free Hard Caramels to sooth my chronic throat and asthma problems so I tend to think of them as medicine and not treats. I don't tolerate a lot of sugar alcohols either and wish I did as sugar is even worse in my opinion.

Yeah Morticia. I am hanging on to my Ricolas for that reason but Werthers are too much of a treat for me so they have to go especially these caramel ones.

I don’t need to give up on sugar alcohols. They get rid of themselves.

Yeah I feel the same. I keep using those sugar free candies as a crutch and never really stop the cravings for sweets!

It’s a shame they use Maltitol in almost all the sugar free candies. That junk is just like sugar. Back in my keto days I tested a bunch of them out with my ketone blood tester. Always threw me out of ketosis.

Omg sneaky! They at labeling it differently in USA, calling it ISOMALT! so sneaky! Dang. Ya. That stuff raises your blood sugar and should never be called sugar free. Dang sorry.

Use the Yuka app. Makes it easier to avoid harmful ingredients! Just scan and decide. For me it a put back on shelf moment!

Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know about marital or Somali and now I know what happened to me today. Paying the price for sneaky wheat. Ugh.

I confess I don't know much about alcohol sugars. I avoid sugar free but it seems to make sick some times. Not monk fruit ones but some of the others (like whats found in body armour lite) make me "trip" for lack of a better word I feel anxious, have heart palpations, walls melt, vomiting; needless to say I don't use them. But I did like the body armour waters but not the sugar so I was like what the heck I'll try the sugar free I even found a flavor that I loved it took me a couple to figure out what made me feel so sick 😷. Now I avoid all sugar free products just in case.

Some of the sugar alcohols, especially maltitol has a laxative effect. . It is not very healthy to overdo that regularly. which is why I am cutting it way down now. Aspartame, not a sugar alcohol but an artificial sweetener, makes me crave food so I avoid that one most of the time.

I have been a victim of auto correct. I was trying to type isomalt and maltitol. Yikes!
