You are doing great. Burning in the knee is not normal, so you're right to pay attention to it and stop the lunges.

Impressed by anyone who does squats. I find them absolutely terrifying.

Thank you, SherryeB and LaughingChevre! LC, have you ever tried goblet squats? They really work your whole body without requiring a bar on your shoulders. I don't squat as low as I used to... No more "ass to grass" for my knee. I just go down to the point my bum and knee are level. The deminishing returns aren't worth it to put more strain on my knee.

I too have trouble with lunges and squats. I tore my mcl a few years ago and now I tend to turn my knees inward. I use a band( the thick material ones, not rubber ones) and it helps alot to stabilize my knees. I place it a few inches above knees.I use it for lunges and squats. 💜💜

Also make sure when lunging that your back leg is at 90 degrees so you never have knee in front of toes. I rarely use weights on lunges anyway. And with squats make sure you can wiggle toes and your back is straight. ..that insures your knees are not in front of toes. My old trainer used to tell me he should be able to read the front of your t-shirt. If not,you are bent to far forward.

Yep, I do goblet squats with 12-14kg. The 45-lb bar just feels so heavy on my shoulders and half the time I can't even use the squat rack because taller people have used it and I can't lift the bar over my shoulders.

You may want to check out "knee over toes guy" Stupid name, excellent kneehab program, post and sans surgery.

Props to anyone who actually does lunges, btw. Worse than cardio... I'd rather run!

Thanks for the beautiful roses. No squats for these old joints. 😁

Lots of great exercise ideas. So far I've tried weighted reverse lunges, weighted Bulgarian split squats, and I like both.

Give Sydney Cummings YouTube workouts a try! I was not able to do much w my injured knee and by doing her workouts have become so much stronger and healthier without any modifications needed anymore! Would suggest her to anyone, and she’s free :)
