RN16's Logboek, 06 jun 21

I'm slowly reverse dieting to maintenance so I can build more muscle. I was never consistent with ab exercises, so now I am going to consistently do ab exercises three days a week to help build more core. When I told a trainer at the gym I go to that I use a tape measure to measure my body fat, he said that it was one of the least accurate methods and that I look like I'm 17 or 18% bf not 20.3. I bought calipers online, because he said those are more accurate than measuring tape and if I did it right and I followed the directions, I'm 15.9% bf. I will get to maintenance and keep do ab exercises to see if it'll get rid of this last stubborn fat and loose skin. I definitely don't want to get any skinnier. I want to build muscle.

Well I used an online calculator and it had me measure 3 separate areas and that one says I'm at 20.5 bf and it also said fat is 25.4, leak muscle mass 98.6. I just originally measured one place and went by the chart it came with. I'm still going to do my plan of working my way up to maintenance and build more muscle.

Nice work. Calipers are much better than tape. A single bf% number does not tell us much. Even the most accurate tools can be inaccurate and misleading relative to the mirror. What can be useful is measuring fat the exact same way every single time, and tracking results over time. This can help inform your recomp efforts and understanding of your body's changes, especially when used in conjunction with the mirror. Let's go!
