DFinch, I'm sorry to hear what your going through. Losing a dog is devastating.
The only thing that gave me any comfort when we had to let go of our former dog was the realization that they live 10-15 years while we live much longer.
The only way to welcome them into our lives and hearts is to recognise that gap and cherish the time we have.
The only thing that helped me actually deal with the loss was getting another, the little one that looks like a lab (Lily).
I hope you find a way to find peace with your dog's departure.

They are adorable. I love how clean and white they are. Also the beds are meticulous. My kind of pets. I can identify every iconic building in those photos that you have behind you. The Chrysler building, the flat iron building, and the brand new world trade center building. Love it. Love NYC

The one on the right, named "Philadelphia", is a male white shepherd, also called Swiss shepherd.
The other smaller female, "Lily", is a lab-mix according to the rescue. From our perspective, she's mostly a dog....mostly.
