Yay, Idaho farmers, Mrs. Bairds, thanks you for your support :) Carry on. Yes, cast aside any poker aspirations :) Yay, for no put downs.

I agree - I've whined about this recently (the whole budgetary committee meeting that has to be held in my head with almost EVERY single food). It's practically a seminar when I'm eating out because I have to take into account the different combinations.

But I have noticed I don't have to do it as much as home when I know my 'staples' (protein & veggies) so it's not that bad.

Dining out - I understand it's supposed to be a special event & with special events we should be able to make exceptions but I would not stay on the path to my goals if I make too many exceptions. ESPecially as one of my goals is to eat mindfully & intuitively.

So yes, I could have eaten the potato & brought leftovers of the steak & veggies home. All of it would have been too much volume at one meal.

And although I'm VERY (overly in fact) up front about my woe/thoughts/methods here... I will go ahead and tell you this too: I won the last 3 Texas Hold 'Em poker tournaments I entered. They were for charity but still .. bragging rights, ya know?

Bella~ I eat mostly at home and agree the mindful eating is much easier when I have made my own meals. Eating out for me is maybe a couple times a month so I am usually just all into what I ordered and leave nothing to bring home ! I understand for others who dine out more frequently the challenge to balance/budget those meals is much different than for me. You are doing great !

Thanks CC. Yeah, I'm dining out again tonight so I had to take THAT into consideration last night too. Now, it's mostly Mediterranean food so this will be interesting but all in all I will still have my mental budgetary meeting when ordering... and a quick 'check up' during the meal.
