I speak from firsthand knowledge that hypothyroidism needs much more than caloric deficit to lose weight, especially combined with other disorders and issues.

EmaleeG, perfectly stated. There are other considerations to take into account with multiple autoimmune diseases. First off, no OMAD and fasting. Meds and body can't tolerate the time away from essential nutrients. (Ever had the crazy shakes where you can't walk?? Not fun.) Also need to combine foods for maximum efficiency when taking off weight. Lots of hurdles, but it is doable! 🍁

I agree Keilin. I follow a keto diet but have realized that I still need to keep my calories at a certain level if I want to lose weight.

The theory is we eat to satiety. But so many of us have to unlearn clean-plate and other bad eating habits, we miss the "stop eating, you are satisfied" signal. So we watch calories until we learn.

I have mine set to 1200, which is low but I can't do much exercise and I am losing weight very slowly.. maybe a pound a week. If I eat 1500 calories daily I don't lose at all.. just maintaining. Have lost 0 inches since going off Keto and doing lower carb (50 - 100)

ketome, simply answering the question without the snide comment, would have been appreciated. There are lots of references available on many subjects, each with their set of acronyms. I try to always remember to give the definition of acronyms if they are not in common usage by my audience.

Furthermore, ketome, my post said "in theory" we would eat keto until satiated but we often miss the satiety "signal". Therefore I suggested we need to "watch" calories, by which I meant, set limits. I said nothing about what those limits should be. The TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) method may be a good way to set calorie limits.
